VH-LCL, the LADS Dash 8 is back in Adelaide. It arrived on Monday 1st March 2010 and going on current information will be here till mid April. We hope to meet up with the crew and bring you up to date during the stay.

Gawler Aerodrome

Gawler Aerodrome will be having an open day on 6th March 2010 to celebrate the new field. 5DME's David Wilkie will be attending the event to bring all the latest images and information about the drome.

The move to the new aerodrome is a result adjustments required for the new Northern Expressway.

Navy Laser Airborne Depth Sounder

The Navy Dash 8, VH-LCL will be returning to Adelaide during March 2010. From 1st to 17th the Dash 8 will be here for deployment. Readers will note that this aircraft replaced the Fokker F27 late 2009. The survey gear was moved into VH-LCL and the aircraft went into service for the Navy during December 2009/January 2010.

55th Anniversary of Commercial Flights into Adelaide

Today, February 16th 2010. Adelaide Airport celebrates 55 years of commercial flights. Back on the day and ANA DC-4 took over six hours to make the trip from Perth.

New QANTAS Link Adelaide-Pt Lincoln

New QANTAS Link filights begun between Adelaide and Port Lincoln on Monday 14th February 2010. The first flight was from Port Lincoln to Adelaide. There is scheduled 4 flights this route for Monday and 4 to Port Lincoln. This new route will use the Dash 8-400 aircraft.

100th Anniversary of the first powered flight in South Australia

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first powered flight in SA the South Australian Aviation Museum will be flying a large model of the Bleriot aircraft at the museum. The flight is in recognition of the Bill Wittber "hop" and the Fred Custance flight at Bolivar on 17th March 1910.

The re-enactment flight will commence at the museum at 10.00 am on 14th March 2010.

CFS Air Crane

5DME visited the Brukunga and Woodside CFS bases on Friday 8th Jan 2010. We have plenty of great photos and a 10 minute interview with the pilots of Christine (Erickson Air Crane). Also, photos of Air Tractors and Helicopters at the Woodside base with plenty of information.

Erickson Air-Cranes CFS

The Air-Crane is due into South Australia to be ready to enter service for the CFS on Monday 21st December 2009. 5DME will be attending CFS Media Day and will bring you more information as it comes to hand. At this stage we are unaware of any public open day but will advise if this should change.

VH-EWP Laser Airborne Depth Sounder

Fokker Friendship VH-EWP departed Adelaide today at 0830. This is her last vist here for some time. After being refitted with the LADS gear from VH-LCL (Dash 8) she is on her way to Victoria.

We will keep you up-to-date on where and what VH-EWP is doing to the best of our ability.

90th Anniversary Sir Keith & Sir Ross Smith 1919 Air Race

The 90th Anniversary of the arrival of Sir Keith, Sir Ross Smith, Jimmy Bennett and W.H. Sheirs into Darwin on 10th of December 1919, in a Vickers Vimy WWI bomber (G-EAOU) is being commemorated with a special service to be held at the Creswell Gardens. The anniversary is on the 10th of December but the commemorative ceremony will be held on Sunday the 13th of December.

Martyn Smith form Adelaide Biplanes with be flying air mail on the 10th to officially recognise the event. The Air mail (Covers) will be provided by the West Beach Aviation Group (WBAG). A member of the Air Mail Society will be a passenger on the flight.

MAC SA State Rescue Helicopters

On 26th of November 2009 the MAC SA State Rescue Helicopters and associated services, police, ambulance etc. were put on display at the Torrens Parade Grounds in Adelaide. Two helicopters were present of the three, a Bell 412 and an EC130.

Ambulance and Paramedics put on a road accident rescue display for all to see how the services relate and operate together. This allowed a significant photo opportunity for 5DME. You can read the news on our main page and there will be a 5DME Stories page added soon. There will be links and related documents to download for your interest.

MAC Rescue Helicopter Service - Public Sector Week Event 2009

Come and learn about the South Australian State Rescue Helicopter Service during Public Sector Week 2009!

The “MAC (Motor Accident Commission) Rescue Helicopter Service” is a shared-user helicopter service utilised by four emergency service agencies in providing critical support to the South Australian community.

From emergency medical retrievals to search and rescue operations, high speedcriminal pursuits, and bushfire management operations, the helicopters provide a flexible and effective service which ultimately helps save lives.

Join SA Health (MedSTAR Emergency Medical Retrieval Service), SA AmbulanceService, and SA Police as they demonstrate their roles in responding to an emergency situation and describe the tasks they undertake with the aircraft.

Opportunity to see the helicopters up close and personal.

Sessions:	Thu Nov 26, 2pm-4pm
Duration:	2 hours
Venue:	Torrens Parade Ground (corner of King William St and Victoria Drive, Adelaide)
Bookings:	Not Required

Conditions:	Hat/sun protective gear recommended. Also note if the helicopters are required for real life emergencies, they may not be available for the event, however user agency staff will still be available for questions.

VH-EWP to return to YPAD

During November 2009 VH-EWP (Fokker Friendship 500) will be returning to Adelaide. After a week long visit to have the Navy LADS gear removed in September, VH-EWP is now having the survey gear from the Dash 8 installed. As you will remember, the Navy gear is going into the Dash 8 (VH-LCL).

5DME will keep posting news about these aircraft as it comes to hand.

NOTE: Expected arrival YPAD 9th November.

Spitfire Open Day

The South Australian Aviation Museum (SAAM) will be holding a Spitfire Open Day on Sunday the 15th of November 2009.

The cockpit will be open for viewing and photographs. At 10.30am there will be a commentary on the items on display and the unique features of the Spitfire.

Sausage Sizzle - Tea, Coffee, Drinks will be available for purchase 11.30am till 1.30pm
