Airport Watch (Adelaide Operational Trial)

The Airport Watch Trial at Adelaide has concluded recently. Information and input was sought from the participants and will now be examined at OTS. We are hoping to hear back by the end of the month as to any conclusions or recommended changes that may lead to a full scale roll-out of Airport Watch Australia-wide.

As the aviation enthusiast community was involved with the Adelaide trial we hope that should there be a full scale roll-out of the scheme that aviation groups will be encouraged to participate.

International Learn to Fly Day

On May 15th 2010 it is Learn to Fly Day. Based on the familiar "Come and Try Day" it is aimed at encouraging people to learn to fly.

Aldinga Aero Club has run a competition to select 10 people to receive a FREE 25 minute flight. The local messenger news paper "Southern Times" has promoted the competition and accepted entries.

The winners were drawn on Tusday the 4th May and will be notified in due course.

Airport Watch Adelaide Operational Trial

The Airport Watch Operational trial has been underway at Adelaide Airport for just over a week. The idea of Airport Watch is not to target legitimate airport users but to create an awareness of what could be considered "unusual" activity and enhance the security culture to report such events.

If such events are reported then bona fides can be established. If these events are not reported, then there is no opportunity to establish activities as suspicious or otherwise.

Airport Watch endeavours to create and enhance a security conscious culture within the airport community. Most regular airport users know their neighbours and general day to day activites. Events that are out of the ordinary should be readily detectable.

Airport users are also asked to become involved. Such as travellers, taxi drivers, couriers, aviation enthusiasts and others.

The bottom line is: See it, report it! This then directs the issue to someone qualified to make any security determinations.

This all adds to airport safety for everyone.

5DME will be producing a video at the end of each week to help cover relevant points of the trial.

Aldinga Aero Club Cystic Fibrosis Joy Flights

18th April 2010. Aldinga Aero Club provided joy flights for people with Cystic Fibrosis. Flights started at around 1000 and finished at 1400. There was a Barbeque at the club house for those that attended. Several pilots flew two or three sorties each giving teir time and aircraft to benefit this worth while cause.

It is great to see the aviation community supporting those in need.

Vintage and Classic Fly In Aldinga 18-4-10

5DME attended the Aldinga Aerodrome today for the Vintage and Classic Fly In. The day was a great success and by 2.30pm we estimate over 2000 people attended. There was a significant aircraft presence with the flight line fully loaded. Several people took the opportunity to go on a scenic flight in the WACO and Tiger Moth from Adelaide Biplanes.

The hangar stall area remained full of people the whole time we were there. What a great day!

Vintage and Classic Fly In at Aldinga

Hello Everyone,

We (Adelaide Biplanes) are hosting a Vintage and Classic Fly In to Aldinga Airfield to support the McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic Day for cars and motorbikes.

The Fly In will be on Sunday April 18^th and there will also be stalls showcasing local wine, gourmet food and antiques.

Flying is always subject to weather, but the stalls will be located in a new hangar at the entrance to the Airfield. If you know of anyone that would like to have a stall that fits the criteria of wine, food and antiques then you are welcome to pass on my details.

Gawler Aerodrome

The move to the new aerodrome is a result adjustments required for the new Northern Expressway.

Navy Laser Airborne Depth Sounder

The Navy Dash 8, VH-LCL will be returning to Adelaide during March 2010. From 1st to 17th the Dash 8 will be here for deployment. Readers will note that this aircraft replaced the Fokker F27 late 2009. The survey gear was moved into VH-LCL and the aircraft went into service for the Navy during December 2009/January 2010.

55th Anniversary of Commercial Flights into Adelaide

Today, February 16th 2010. Adelaide Airport celebrates 55 years of commercial flights. Back on the day and ANA DC-4 took over six hours to make the trip from Perth.
